I worked on this project over the summer, but never quite finished. For a bit of background, there is a very popular collectible card game known as Magic The Gathering. Since 1993, they have regularly released sets of cards ranging from 100 to 200 cards a piece (roughly) that can be played in the game. Each set generally has a specific theme and revolves around one aspect or time period within the Magic universe. Many applications have been released on the internet that allow people to create their own unofficial sets. The cards look pretty similar and use a sort of form except for the actual text written on them and the picture they use. I figured, hey, why not create a Procrast-Nation Magic Card Set? So I started. I had originally planned on making over 120 cards, but I sort of petered out at 70. Instead of waiting to finish the set and possibly never doing so, I figured I’ll release what I have now, which is pretty substantial and awesome, and I can always come back later and finish it.
The set would actually be fairly playable, and may of the cards interact with other cards from the series. Some of them may be slightly over or under powered, I never completely finished balancing the set out, but overall its pretty decent. There are a good cross section of cards of the five mana types. In terms of card category, the set is heavily creature based, as the visual content we have created on the blog was most conducive to this. I will be releasing 7 cards per post in a 10 post series, starting with this post. With each post, I will also write a little bit more about the set and where I was going with it, plus possible strategies I envisioned people would use when creating a Procrast-Nation deck.
To start, here is a card based on one of Scratch Corwood’s sketches.
